December fashion didn’t disappoint. Much like November, there were more than a few noteworthy moments. From the annual Victoria’s Secret show with millions in fantasy bras, to the actress who played sweet Hermoine Granger all grown up, there was more than enough couture to go around.
Here’s some of our favorites for the month:
Victoria’s Secret Rocks the Runway
Victoria’s Secret took their yearly celebration of all things sexy to epic proportions with their runway show in London in early December. The show was televised mid-month in nearly 200 countries, and featured models Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Doutzen Kroes, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge, Behati Prinsloo, Karlie Kloss and more strutting elaborate lingerie and blowing kisses to the crowd.
The star studded event boasted musical guests Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Hozier, not to mention over $2million in fantasy bras. Crafted by Mouawad jewelers with over 16,000 rubies, diamonds and sapphires and 1,380 hours of manpower, these solid gold bras made our December Wish List.
Congratulations to producer Done and Dusted, Executive Producers Edward G. Razek, Monica Mitro and Ian Stewart, and Director Hamish Hamilton on a fantastic fashion spectacle.
Fashion Meets Feminism
Feminism was a hot issue during Fashion Week in Paris in October, with Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel catwalk show bringing the issue to the forefront of everyone’s mind.
As per usual, he inspired in a way that only he can manage and Elle UK decided to launch their first ever Feminism Issue in December. Who better than to grace the cover than rising star for gender equality Emma Watson? Her recent “HeForShe” speech to the United Nations in her role as Global Goodwill Ambassador went viral in hours, and she is a young woman who definitely sets the bar for style.
Elle UK enlisted the help of three feminist groups and three advertising agencies with the soul purpose of “rebranding feminism” for the issue, hoping to make the concept more user friendly and raise awareness of gender equality. While success can’t truly be measured, we can all agree that Emma Watson looked absolutely fabulous, and gave a powerful interview in the issue.
Madonna for Versace
Donatella Versace went on record late the month talking about Madonna’s recent ad shoot for the Versace Spring/Summer 2015 campaign. As if we couldn’t love Madge more.
Apparently the 56 year old singer, actress and pop culture icon didn’t need any retouching done to her perfectly toned arms and abdomen. To top if off, the best selling female recording artist of all time is donating the proceeds she earned from the campaign to charity. Jessica Vince over at Grazia Daily UK has the whole scoop.
Louis Vuitton Knows How to Market Luxury
French luxury leather goods powerhouse Louis Vuitton took home the Luxury Marketer of the Year award in late December, beating out Hermès and second runner-up Dior for the award. New creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere has lead the Louis Vuitton team flawlessly into his vision this past year, securing consistent visibility and brand image over fashions most important channels.
We love Louis Vuitton for their keen eye to detail and incredible fashion sense, and can’t wait to see the Spring/Summer lines and looks.
Glamouri is Oh So Glamorous
First catching our eye early in the month with this high fastion piece on “A Fluid Geometry,” we can’t get enough of fashion blog The Glamourai. Kelly Framel gives you nothing but amazing fashion inspiration, with magazine quality photo shoots, beauty ideas, tutorials, DIY tips, and news about fashion, living and travel.
In truth it was this MAIYET ASYMMETRIC CUFF that caught our eye, and our obsession with the site is history.
Pantone Paints the Town Red
In an announcement in early December, Pantone announced the Color of the Year for 2015, the deep and earthy Marsala.
While the internet erupted with mixed reviews, John Engelen over at The Decadence Blog took an in depth look at this hot color for 2015, and shows us just how wearable it can be. From clothes for men and women to accessories, celebrity style, and how to mix and match it in your wardrobe, we love these tips on how to embrace the color.
Since 1990 Pantone has been nominating colors, and mixed reviews are common, but one things is for sure. You can always expect to see it in Spring Fashion Week.
Daily Fashion Worldwide
We love fashion inspiration, which is one of many reasons that we’re totally obsessed with Fashion Bomb Daily. Created in 2006 by Clare Sulmers, this site takes fashionable to a whole new level.
With daily posts and bios on some of the worlds most fashionable street style for men and women, and online store to shop celebrity looks, designer and celebrity news, and a whole host more, FashionBomb inspires us daily.
Last month, Samantha from New York caught our eye with her uber chic boutique street style, pairing everything from fur to leather with bright colors for the winter months. Three cheers for Samantha, and thank you Clare for non-stop amazing fashion, beauty, and style.
Kate Upton is Sexy, Duh
People Magazine named Kate Upton the “Sexiest Woman Alive” in December. While this wasn’t exactly news to anyone, we loved that she accepted the award in a skin tight black leather outfit, featuring a Tamara Mellon shirt, Thomas Wylde skirt, Brian Atwood shoes, Anita Ko jewels, and The Way We Wore vintage belt.
Bustle’s Sienna Fantozzi agrees as much as we do, and gives us eight more instances where Kate was beyond sexy in her article here. Talk about a bombshell.
Passionate About Purses
Accessories make or break any outfit, and we are positively passionate about purses. In December we loved The Purse Blog’s article on 10 Fashion Insiders’ Holiday Wish Lists including tips from icons like Jonathan Adler and Alex Woo.
The Purse Blog has content galore, offering deals, styling tips and tricks, and more. The community of over half a million members has Meaghan Mahoney Dusil and Vlad Dusil to thank for the engaging content, of which we simply can’t get enough.
There’s no shortage of fashion news and amazing blogs out there, so be sure to let us know your favorite in the comments. See you next month to talk about Awards Shows, Fashion Weeks, celebrity fashion and more!
